Chemical Investigators

Crime scenes often have powder residue at crime scenes. Investigators have to determine what powders are by smells, sights, texture, and chemical reactions. The class got to look at all the different powders, compare & contrast, smell, and we viewed what chemical reaction happens when each powder was mixed with water, vinegar, or iodine. 

Notice the crime scene left all over on the floor & background. Ha! Sorry we had not cleaned up just yet...

Kenneth is 3

Minion, Minion, Minion!

So cute and so fun. Little Kenneth turned 3 and celebrated with his class. We had minion cupcakes with ice cream. His mom had bananas to make banana splits. If you know anything about a Minion, you know about BA-NaNaaa-ssss. Haha. 

Crime Scene 1

Oh No!!! We have our first crime scene. During our 2 weeks of "Crime Solvers" unit, we walked into our science lab and found a mess! We also discovered that our popcorn machine was missing! Who could have done this?!?! Fortunately, we had plenty of clues left from the culprit. We found shoe prints in red paint. We noticed that the shoe had squares on the soles and probably would still have some red paint on the bottom. We jotted down our notes and off we went to find the person responsible. We checked everyone's shoes and finally figured out that Ms. Kim was guilty.

Dental Investigators

We studied about dental investigators and discovered that everyone's teeth are different. If someone had committed a crime and left teeth impressions, a dental investigator could identify that person by the marks left behind! We played a game similar to 7up. We ALL made our teeth impressions into Styrofoam plates. Then one person had to leave the room & stand behind our closed door pretending to be the dental investigator. With the group left inside, we picked one person to bite into cheese or chocolate. The "dental investigator" came in & had to match the teeth imprints from the cheese/chocolate to the teeth marks in the Styrofoam plates. Everyone had a turn at both the suspect & dental investigator! We had a blast!
